Omaha is a great game for action, people
play it because they feel they can justify playing many starting
hands as there are many possible combinations using four cards.
Lets show you how you can beat these people with our pot and fixed limit omaha tips and strategy guide. also, please use the links above to find more detailed tips.
Omaha is won and lost before the flop. Most
people play too many starting hands and put themselves
at a massive disadvantage against good players and professionals.
Play only cards that work together. ALL FOUR CARDS MUST
WORK TOGETHER. This means that if you hit your flop you
naturally end up with backup from your other two cards.
Try to play under 20% of starting hands.
After the flop, only draw to the best
hands. Only draw to the nut flush, nut str8, nut full
house etc. Failure to do this will again put you at a
disadvantage over good players.
Unlike holdem, Omaha does not really involve
slow playing. If you flop the nut flush, bet the pot. Betting
the pot protects your hand, makes people pay to draw and
makes it hard for players to read you. Too many times you
see people make too small a bet and let someone outdraw
them or bet at the end less because they want to be called.
In Omaha , bet the pot.
Good players are looking to get their money
in on the turn. This is where there will be a lot of money
in the pot and they can protect their hand. Next time you
have trips and someone bets the flop, think about flat
calling with a view to raisng on the turn if an innocuous
card comes.
Whilst table position is not as important
as it is in holdem, it is still a big factor in omaha .
If you have optimal table position, you may now bet your
drawing hands, str8 and flush draws etc. Doing this out
of position will cost you money long term. Read our holdem
section to find out more about position.
