As said before on this site, Omaha Hi is
a simple game, you make the best hand and when you have it
is often wise to BET THE POT.
Well, I want to get paid on my hands so
why should I bet the pot? I hear you say.
For the following reasons it is
wise to bet the pot when you have the nuts
1 - It keeps people guessing. If you bet
the pot when you are bluffing or when you have the nuts, people
will never know where they stand in a hand with you. Don’t
be tempted to make bets that “want a call” and
are thus less than the pot.
2 - You want to be paid the maximum for
your hand. In most games, people will find it hard to throw
away their second best hands, you will be surprised at how
many times your pot bets are called.
3 - If you make your nut hand on the flop
or the turn, you want people to pay the maximum to see the
next card. As in Omaha, everyone starts with 4 cards, there
will be a lot of communal cards that can still come to beat
you. For this reason, bet the pot and make it most expensive
for people to outdraw you.
There are times where you may want to bet
less for whatever reason, but as a general rule it is a sound
idea to bet the pot when you have the best hand.
