In Omaha hi low, trips is the amateur hand,
unless it is accompanied by the nut low. Omaha hi low is about
making a low hand and having great possibilities of stealing
the high pot also.
EXAMPLE 1
On a flop of :
8h 4d 2c
Someone with 888 and no low has a poor hand,
that is all there is to it. A good player would not call any
bet into this pot and yet he has the nut trips. The reason
is that, if player b has
Ah 3d 5h 9d
Or any A3 hand, he is a big favourite to
win AND HE CANNOT LOSE as he already has the low pot locked
up. Although, the 888 will hold up sometimes, it will never
make a profit against the A3 hand and will often get outdrawn
when a 5 comes to make the low str8.
EXAMPLE 2
On a flop of :
Kc 4c 5h
Someone with KKK should tread very carefully.
If for example, someone held the hand Ac 2c 3d Qh or any similar
hand, the KKK is a big underdog on that flop.
The person with A23 :
Wins the pot with any A,2,3,6
Wins the pot with any club
Halves the pot with any 7,8
Statistically, he has the much better hand
and that is even after the player with KKK has hit a king on
the flop.
When you consider that you have a 7-1 or
so chance of flopping trips and even when you do, you will
often be an underdog, it doesn’t make much sense to play
KK,QQ,JJ,1010 or any other pair, UNLESS YOU HAVE GOOD LOW CARDS
