Tilt is something that most poker players
come across from time to time. It is effectively when you lose
regard for your chips and really lose the will to win and start
aimlessly slinging your chips into the middle. It normally
follows a run of bad beats.
So. How do we avoid this. Try these tips
below to help you and follow them rigorously.
If you get a bad beat, STOP PLAYING for
30 minutes, go away, reflect on things and unless you feel
fine, do not return to the table.
Never lose back the profits that you have
won. Obvious as this sounds, many people do it. If you are
winning $100 and lose $50 back, STOP. Going back to level or
negative money is bound to affect your play and may result
in the dreaded tilt.
Do not fight your luck! People who do not
know about poker cannot appreciate how it defies mathematics
and how you really are either hot or cold. Being "out
of form" is a term for a poker player whose luck is running
bad. If this is you, minimise what you lose, don't fight it.
Play shorter sessions, try to play better and harder and wait
until it turns for you..
If you feel yourself start to get agitated,
take deep breaths, listen to some calming music (whale music
if you must), leave the table and make a cup of tea, anything
to break the cycle. If this is you and you are starting to
boil up, everything will annoy you and soon you will be cursing
your luck and worshipping the god of tilt.
After a bad day, take a break the next day.
If you have had a really bad time of it on a given day or two,
stop for a day or two. There is always another game the next
day online you don't have to beat yourself up. If you really
need the money on that day, you have not got enough of a bankroll
to play professional poker!
