When Gus plays, you're not going to see a lot of textbook play from him. He pays little attention to position and at times seems to be playing any two cards. Players get frustrated by Gus frequently raising the pot and start playing back at what must be another trash hand. The problem is, even Gus has a big hand at times and when he does he gets paid off. For example, at the 2004 Poker Superstars Invitational against the world's elite players, Gus had just won a pot showing down a lousy J-4. The next hand saw Gus involved again making exactly the same bet. Doyle Brunson, noticing this, decided to re-raise all-in but Gus called and won the pot with pocket aces. |
