Baccarat Rules

In baccarat, the rules are that you have two bets only. One from the banker and one fromt he player. The odds are pretty similar for each hand and it is a luck game completely.

- The table is oblong shaped and has seven numbered positions on each side. As with hotels, lifts etc the number 13 is often left out meaning that the numbers reach 15 in most games.

- Each position has written on it three bets. The banker, the player and the tie.

- It takes three dealers to work the tables and give or take the corresponding amounts of chips.

- A croupier or "caller" stands in the middle of the table and makes the calls on each hand and telling the players when to act etc.

- In baccarat, the players will deal the cards.

- Before the game is ready to begin, the dealer will shuffle eight decks of cards and place them in a card shoe.

- Player one is offered the opportunity to be the banker. As banker he deals two cards for each hand. The first card is the first player card and goes to the croupier, the second card (the first banker card) goes under the corner of the shoe. The third card goes again to the croupier and the fourth card again goes under the shoe.

- the croupier then passes the players cards to the player at the table with the highest bet on the players side. If no one has bet on the players side the croupier exposes the cards.

- Players do not have to accept the shoe as the banker. It is not incorrect to pass the shoe if you want to make a players bet. But you may take the shoe and bet the players side.

- The rules of the game determine whether a third card can be taken out.  The winner is the hand with a total closest to 9.

- Face cards and tens have no value when the total amount is over 9. I.E 5 and 6 would equal 1 as you drop the ten count because thenumber is over 9.

- The last bet that can be made is the tie bet which is normally a side bet that is placed alongside with a player or banker bet.

- As the banker has a slight advantage, banker bets pay a 5% commission which is kept track of by the dealer.
